Asbestos Surveys & Removal

Competent and capable in Asbestos removal and decontamination

Asbestos fibres are believed to have been used in over 4,000 different products and have been identified in over 15,000 patents. Asbestos Containing Materials (ACMs) were used extensively within buildings in Great Britain between the 1950s through to the mid 1980s, with a total ban by the year 2000.

Contrary to popular belief, asbestos containing materials (ACM's) do not always need to be removed. ACM's that are in good condition and are not likely to be damaged or disturbed are sometimes best left in place and managed. Their condition is easily established by carrying out a risk assessment that can be included within an Asbestos Register. Current regulations require commercial buildings built before the year 2000 to have an asbestos management plan for all presumed ACM's.

Since May 2004 people responsible for non-domestic premises, built prior to 2000, have needed to know about Asbestos Containing Materials (ACM's) on their premises, its location, condition and how to manage it. This requires each building to have an asbestos register and management plan available on site.

Additionally, if you are working on domestic or non-domestic premises built before 2000, you have a duty of care to ensure that any potential asbestos containing materials (ACM's) are not disturbed during your work and a refurbishment asbestos survey must be carried out to comply with regulation 4 and assist in planning the work.

Watts Contracting have an excellent level of competence due to extensive on site experience and insight into where potential ACM's can be found.

We have experience of surveying anything from a small residential flat through to large offices and industrial sites that are in constant use. All samples are tested at an independent UKAS Accredited Laboratory.
